All levels of government, community and private sector have a responsibility to demonstrate good governance and strong, sound leadership. These qualities are essential to closing the gaps in the life outcomes and opportunities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.

Targets, strategies and progress measures

There are no Council of Australian Governments (COAG) that directly address this strategic action area.

However, improvements in this area may have long-term impacts on a number of COAG targets, for example:

  • enhanced governance policies and systems may help to increase economic participation
  • increased coordination of government and community based services may improve health, educational and employment outcomes

Progress measures

The measures that the Queensland Government will use to monitor progress in governance and leadership are under development.

Strategic directions

The Queensland Government will address governance and leadership in the communities with the following strategies:

  • develop and maintain innovative engagement mechanisms
  • develop and support community capacity and leadership
  • support development of leadership for women and young people
